Time: 10am to 4pm

This course is suitable for someone wanting to start a career as a manicurist or starting out in beauty therapy.

Course comprises of theory & practical tuition along with workbooks completed as home study.

Day 1 - Manicure training: Introduction to course work health and safety, setting up work area, contra-indications, consultation and practical skills for manicure, anatomy and physiology.

Day 2 - Pedicure: Setting up work area.

Day 3 - Remedial treatments

Day 4 - Half day: Review of skills development through formative practical assessment, action planning and theory.

On completion of self study work books & case studies etc. students will return for day 5.

Day 5 - Summative/final practical and written exams/assessments
* Candidates are required to bring own models for assessments.

• Health, hygiene, safety & legislation (VR02 & VR74)
• Preparation of therapist, tools, work area and client
• Theory of tools and products
• Consultation/record cards
• Contra-indications and contra-actions
• Benefits & effects of manicures & pedicures
• Massage theory
• Theory of anatomy & physiology: of the hands, arms & foot and lower leg, nail disorders and diseases, nail growth
• Practical manicure & pedicure routine
• Range of varnish application techniques
• Massage of the hand, arm & foot and lower leg
• Post & future treatment advice
• Case studies
• Workbooks are completed as self study at home to reinforce learning
• Candidates wishing to achieve this qualification will need to build a portfolio of evidence containing written, practical assessments, assignments, workbooks & all other relevant underpinning knowledge and written paper to be submitted to awarding body examiner following initial training course

If an additional assessment day required a fee of £50 for 3 hours or £70 for 4 hours will be applicable
* Candidates may progress on completion of this course to either another level 3 NVQ in Nail Services or an NVQ unit of beauty therapy and transfer skills and knowledge from this course (see VTCT courses for further details).
* All candidates would be required to purchase a uniform to meet health and safety requirements & text book to help them with theory.
