Entry requirement: Massage or therapist qualification

This course is suitable for someone wanting to either start a career in complementary therapies or add this qualification to other units of beauty or complementary therapies previously achieved.

Course comprises of theory & practical tuition along with workbooks completed as home study.

Day 1: Introduction to course work health and safety, setting up work area, contra-indications, consultation skills, practical skills and post treatment advice.

Day 2: Review of skills development through practical observation, action planning and theory knowledge.

On completion of self study work books & case studies etc. students will return for practical and written assessments/exams and submission of portfolio with work book and case studies.

Day 3: Summative/final practical and written exams/assessments

• Health, hygiene, safety & legislation (VR02 & VR74)
• Preparation of therapist, work area and client
• Consultation/record cards
• Contra-indications and contra-actions
• Benefits & effects of Indian head massage
• Relevant anatomy & physiology for unit
• Practical tuition in Indian head massage
• Post & future treatment advice
• 6 Case studies on 6 clients of 5 treatments
• Workbooks are completed as self study at home to reinforce learning
• Candidates wishing to achieve this qualification will need to build a portfolio of evidence containing written, practical assessments, assignments, workbooks & all other relevant underpinning knowledge and written paper to be submitted to awarding body examiner following initial training course

If an additional assessment day required a fee of £50 for 3 hours or £70 for 4 hours will be applicable
* Candidates may progress on completion of this course to any another level 3 beauty or complementary therapies course or NVQ units of beauty therapy and transfer skills and knowledge from this course (see VTCT courses for further details).
* All candidates would be required to purchase a uniform to meet health and safety requirements & text book to help them with theory.
